Manaslu Expedition

The Manaslu Expedition is located in the Kali Gandaki valley of the Nepal Himalayas. Originally known as Kutang (meaning “flat place” in Tibetan), it was renamed Manaslu, which comes from the Sanskrit word Manasa, meaning “intellect” or “soul.” The first successful summit was made in 1956 by T. Imanishi and G. Norbu. As the first to conquer the mountain, the Japanese are often associated with the peak, and it’s frequently referred to as the “Japanese Peaks.” Manaslu has multiple routes, with the southern face considered one of the most challenging in climbing history.

Our journey begins at Sama Gaon, where Makalu is called Kampung, after a local god. This village also became a site of resistance in 1954 when a Japanese expedition faced hostility from locals who blamed foreign climbers for avalanches and disease, believing they had angered the mountain gods.

The Manaslu Mountain stands at a height of 8,163 meters and is the world’s eighth highest peak. Many people wish to conquer this mountain and have engraved their name in history. The Manaslu Expedition allows you to do the same while also enjoying the magnificent trails, culture, and hospitality along the journey. Brace yourself for a whirlwind experience that lasts for 50 days and it shall show you the overall antiquities of the Manaslu region and deep insight of life into the Himalayas.

Start your journey from Kathmandu, and after getting your documents checked, we shall get on a drive to Arughat. Enjoy the amazing scenery of the Nepali highway and arrive at Arughat which sits on the banks of the mighty Budi Gandaki River. Navigating through Gurung settlements and tropical waterfalls, you reach Machha Khola. Relax in the hot springs of Tatopani and cross Khorlabesi. Climb the staircases to reach Dovan and, further, climb to reach Jagat. Meander through lovely gorges to reach Deng and head west up the Budi Gandaki valley to reach Ghap. Continuing on, you reach Lho and follow on an uphill trail leading all the way to Samagaon. From here, venture into the Manaslu Base Camp and begin the expedition. The climb sees an increase in elevation of upto 8,163 meters, which is divided into 4 camps namely Camp1, Camp2, Camp3, and Camp 4. You'll have to battle against crevasses and snow boulders to cross each one of them. After climbing the summit, head back to the base camp and to Arughat, and finally to Kathmandu where the trip shall end. This trip is most favorable in the month of October to December.

High Altitude Climbing Sherpa: 1 veteran and Government Licensed Sherpa per member. (1 Member: 1 Sherpa)

Oxygen Bottle (O2):Summit Oxygen: 2 oxygen bottles (4 ltrs.) for each member and 1 oxygen bottle for each high-altitude Sherpa.
Oxygen Mask & Regulator: 1 Set of Summit Oxygen mask and regulator for each member and high-altitude Sherpa, which has to be return after expedition.
Back up Oxygen Cylinder, mask and regulator (with appropriate charge).
Rope Fixing Team:The team of experienced Sherpas will fix the route on Manaslu (no extra charge will be applied to members).

Air Fare: International flight airfare (from and to Kathmandu).
Nepal entry Visa fee: Nepali Visa fee US$ 60 per person for 30 days (to be applied for 60 days (USD$ 120).
Lunch & Dinner: Lunch & dinner in during the stay in Kathmandu (also in case of early return from Trekking / Expedition than the scheduled itinerary).
Extra night in Kathmandu: Extra nights’ accommodation in Kathmandu. In case of early arrival or late departure, early return from Trekking / Expedition (due to any reason) than the scheduled itinerary.
Insurance: Travel and high-altitude insurance, accident, Helicopter medical & emergency evacuation. *Mandatory
Rescue Evacuation: Medical and emergency rescue evacuation cost if required. (Rescue, Repatriation, Helicopter, Medication, Medical Tests and Hospitalization costs.)
